A PICC is the safer of all central lines to place with low plt ct for the 
reason Lynn stated.What we do at our facility is ask the MD for an order for a 
unit of plt to be given just prior to PICC insertion and we don't nick prior to 
inserting the introducer. Hope this helps. Vickey

A PICC is the catheter of choice for any patient with a risk of 
bleeding because you can apply direct pressure to the vessel if there 
is a problem. A subclavian site does not offer this same benefits 
because the clavicle would prohibit direct pressure. Lynn
