4.0 and has been fixed in 4.0 MP2:
The 4.0MP2 release notes (http://support.veritas.com/docs/277626) has the
following entry under the fixed incidences section:
311488 The entries in /dev/vx/[r]dsk/ are not cleared during a reboot/system
start-up after a temporary import of a disk group in VxVM 4.0.
"Upon DG import by cluster, it is possible that the minor numbers get remapped
so the newly imported DG ends up with same minor numbers as were used for a
previously imported DG. So, we end up with multiple DG entries in
/dev/vx/[r]dsk with same major/minor numbers. This causes VCS to incorrectly
report that the volume in a DG that is not imported is online and report
concurrency violation."

The post should go to VCS forum...directing to VCS forum ...just curious to
know did you check the GAB membership at the time of power outage & bringing up
the node A. was the power outage to Server or Storage only ?
Is I/O fencing in place ? what does logs say ?

Sorry for crossposting as I am not sure if this is a VCS or VxVM problem.
We have a Veritas Cluster Server 4.0 running on two Solaris 8 (SPARC) nodes. We
had a power outage on one of the nodes A recently, then we started all the
stuff that was on node A on node B. Then we brought back node A back online.
Once node A was brought back online, VCS decleared that SOME of the VxVM
volumes are online on BOTH nodes even though the according disk groups were
imported on node B and ran fine there (we are not using CVM or CFS here). This
caused concurrency violations situation in VCS. We had to manually deport the
disks groups from node B and import them on node A, then run 'vxvol -g <dg>
stopall' on node A to clear this up.
Environments:
Veritas Storage Foundataion for Oracle 4.0
Solaris 8 on two Sun Fire E6900s
Has anybody seen this before or does anybody know if this is a bug?
Thanks,
Rongsheng
