Rolf,

Normally, when you release a product, you have covered the common
things that people will ask. You are prepared. Activation not working,
servers off line, lack of pricing for different situations, a mis-
worded EULA, no mention of product activation during the beta period
at all.

These are all surprises. These are all things that should have been
worked out ahead of time.

Nobody likes being blindsided and nobody likes not having an answer
and nobody like being told they will deal with it 'eventually'.

Versions may be cheaper, but the saying of "you get what you pay for"
could apply. Cornerstone is very responsive to every e-mail. If I have
an issue, I get the feeling they would be responsive and help.
Versions I am not so sure.

Yes, there is still time in the beta period, but what if the beta runs
out, pricing not yet decided and I have to go with another product? I
could have gone with it from the beginning and dealt with it versus
not having to do it in a rush because the product I was using to make
my life easier now doesn't and is causing me headaches as I scramble
to back to being productive.

Imagine this:

Me: Sorry Mr. Boss I am late getting this feature to you because my
source code control client beta version timed out.
My Boss: What is source code control software? Why did it time out?
Me: Well they did not have pricing in place for me to buy it when it
was released.
My Boss: Well are there not other companies? Being late because of
this is not acceptable. What about our investors?
Me: Well their investors had not yet decided on how pricing fit into
their business model. So It i snot my fault.
My Boss: Oh, so, do our investors call their investors and complain?
Me: Yes, Mr. Boss, my hands are tied. I cant work like this.

My Boss and I then go spend the money for Versions we had budgeted on
lunch.

Seriously?

These guys are great developers and have been in the market a while
with other apps (Checkout, Disco, etc) they know the market and they
should have been prepared. The excuse it not valid given their history
in the community.

I hate to see this be negative for them. Disco is a product that has
not been updated after the initial releases and even says it does
functionality that the developer admits never made it and initial
implementations are buggy as hell. I am still waiting 2 months after
his last reply for an update to the situation.
