Fanstastic, that's a great help! (Now I wonder if I can get a batch
rename going somehow?)

There are tooltips on the command icons on the toolbar at the top of
the window, but none for the numbers or the bubbles.

Thanks for the detailed and helpful explanation. In our workflow, if
it's not a file everyone should be able to access then it shouldn't be
in the project directory! But maybe that's just a consequence of our
current very manual system of file management.

No, I was renaming them in the Finder, and this caused Subversion (or
Versions) to see this as one deleted file and one added file for each
renamed file. (And I see that renaming them in Versions does the
same, but in this case the old file is marked for deletion and the new
file marked for addition automatically.)

Adobe's Version Cue was little-used and is no longer in development,
to the annoyance of those who did use it or were considering it.
There are a couple of other offerings but they're very expensive. One
group is attempting to develop a front-end for Subversion to integrate
with Adobe's Creative Suite software, but it's not out yet and
wouldn't be sufficient for us (we also use Office and other programs,
so I was looking for something more general).
