Just to a note to say that the current development version has support for custom definitions.
You can define constants or functions for use in plotting functions, creating datasets or fits. You can also import symbols from external modules to use in this way too. The import facility is a bit clunky as it pops up warning boxes all the time, but I'll streamline this a bit... I've also added a "tail" facility in the capture dialog box. You can capture data retaining only the last N data points.
