Re: [VFB] Nice u-tube fly demoIn answer to your question. I don't know if this will help or not, but we rent Videos from Netflix, and 99% of those are all regular DVD, Not DVD-HD or Blue Ray. That tells me that at least for the next few years, DVD will still be around in vast numbers. Plus, normally, you can go down but you cannot go up, meaning that a DVD player will NOT play DVD-HD or BlueRay, but I (THINK) that DVD-HD will play DVD plain, and Blue Ray will probably play both the other two..Plain as mud???? LOL, that's me, too. I have rotary capability on my Dyna-King, but I just don't use it. Learned to tie without rotary, so it's just an add-on capability. Very few of my flies need rotary assistance, since I tie few flies that need spinning, and the ones that need spinning can easily be done by hand-spinning. What I need is a bull-dog grip and a firm foundation to build patterns that have defined tops and bottoms. I'll be meeting today with the videographer, so I'll be one step closer to making fly-tying cd's. So do I go High Definition or Blue Ray? Was told that HD lost out to BR like Beta lost out to VHS. Now both Beta and VHS are gone. Do I get rid of my HD player now- I have lots of movies and stuff in HD? Do I buy a HD video camera (if the players phase out?), or Blue Ray camera for the coming technology? Is Blue-ray just for movies? But if it takes a different player, why not dual players like the VHS/CD players. Again, it seems the collateral damage of the technology wars is my checkbook, along with the losing tecnology. This is flyfishing related, because after I have 2 or 3 videos 'in the can' from a professional, I want to start filming my own, thus I need to buy the equipment. But if the viewing public has 3 or 4 viewing technologies, which one do I film in and make the investment? Are Blue-rays reproducible? DO THEY PLAY ON COMPUTERS? Do they convert to other technologies or play on lesser machines? Are there copyright/security programs for them to stop pirating? Would it be better to film in the older technology for the majority that have CD libraries already? Audio: I still have a record-player and a huge library of vinyl records. I still have a box-full of 8-tracks, but no player. I still have boxes and boxes of cassetts, and one or two players. I have lots of audio cd's and players My wife now has an i-pod. Video: I still have many VHS tapes and one player (no Beta) I have many video cd's We have started a library of HD DVD movies. Yes, the new technologies are better, but that doesn't justify destroying a library of the previous technology. But since this isn't primarily for personal use, what video technology do I provide as a retail business? I guess this is a marketing question, isn't it. I'm in the learning mode here, so any advice would be appreciated and used. Lots of good videos on that site. But look at him. He spent all that hard-earned money (at least it would have been in my case) to get a high-end rotary vise and then doesn't use it except to examine the fly AFTER it's done. A.
