Peggy, Great idea, I've been doing 'bag-kits' for as long as I can remember. I also do 'fly pattern kits' for my bench. It may be a bag or a box- whatever is required, and in it goes all of the things rquired to make a certain style of fly. I have a box for stoneflies, but a bag or mohair yarn leeches. I like the divider boxes when the flies have a lot of parts, like melted mono eyes, knotted legs, wing cases, etc. If the fly is all soft materials, like the yarn leeches, a soft bag will do. With the wide bags, a few of these kits can go inside, and I can quickly find them at a show. For the shows, I don't know if you noticed in NJ that I tie from the 'kits' you mention. If its time to tie a mouse, I bring out two bags- one is eyes, ears, tails/legs, whisker hackles. The other is bulk deer hair in natural and white. This helps to keep my tying bench uncluttered and I can move fairly quickly between patterns that I'm tying, usually based on requests. The deer-hair in the mouse-bag is that which is well-suited for the mice. But I have another bag of dyed deer-hair for spinning bass-bugs, and yet another for caddis wings, tails, etc. I don't know which curtain-bags you got, but some have zippers that go around the side-panel, not the top. These are good for boxes of materials, like hooks & box-kits. I also use one of these for my tools. The rolling suitcase that I use is filled with these bags, and then the loose stuff, like my lamp, ext. cord, trash bag, displays, etc. To be mobile, I extend the handle on the suitcase & strap on the Baits Motel and any coats/jackets to the handle- and I'm off. Those 'curtain bags' are also great for bird capes, since they're wide enough not to crush them, and a header-card on the side makes them easy to locate on your racks. And just think last weekend everyone laughed when I saved the zipper bags from the new curtains. My thinking was they have room for a index card that I could put a pattern on, and then in the bag goes all the materials for that pattern. That would make packing for a show or class I'm teaching much easier. I also started using the zipper-pouches that drapes and linen and such come in for material bags. By using a peg-board with cross rods extended out on peg-rods, I can hang these using my hooks (some come with hooks- not holes) and have easy access to bulk materials like deer, elk, foam, etc. These contoured bags are thick- 1/2" to 2", so they don't crush your materials while hanging. The 3-sided zipper (on some) makes accessing the contents easy. If you want photos to show how I'm doing it, let me know.
