My apologies to those of you on multiple lists - you'll get this

We just got back after a week in bee-yoo-tiful Colorado. We spent
most of the time sight-seeing in the gorgeous Rockies. Saw lots of
wildlife. Not all of it was in the wilderness. There were some
pretty wild looking things roaming the streets of Estes Park over the
weekend.

On the other hand, there were some truly wild animials right in town.
We were greeted into Estes Park by a herd of about 30 cow elk with
about 20 calves. They were grazing nearly downtown (on the grounds
of the fire station). Although we didn't see any, the local paper
was talking about the many problems they were having with about 10
black bears roaming the town.

We got in one fantastic day of fishing on the Big Thompson below the
canyon. Great fishing. Great catching, too. Unfortunately (for my
ego), my wife caught the biggest one (19" rainbow). We mostly caught
rainbows but we each caught a couple of 14-16" browns. She also
hooked into one that was guess-timated to be 5-8 lb., but it decided
to go a different direction and snapped the 7-lb test flourocarbon
leader.

A stonefly imitation was the killer fly, even though the stonefly
hatch had pretty well ended the week before. ALL fish were on a
heavily weighted stonefly with sili-legs. Now if I can just learn to
tie them before my next trip out there.
