I found this swap to be quite a challenge as I have not tied winged wet flies for a very long time. I experienced some difficulty in placing the beard hackle or collar without crowding the eye and sometimes the wing did not go as planned. You are correct, it is a lost art (at least for me). I think I still have some old catalogs where these were still offered as box-stock flies. It is fun digging through feather bags that I haven accessed in 20 years- would never use that stuff tying modern flies. A true lost art, those wet flies of olden-days.
