The Vosseler is a great example of the
fact that a vise is highly personal. Some like it; I did not care
for at all.
Two pair of jaws... why? No weight in the
base, but a suction cup instead, which just does not work on
many surfaces, and results in an extremely wobbly vise.

Check out the Vosseler. There is no jaw like it. The
base is such that you will pick up the desk before the vise
breaks free of the desk.

I go along with Mike on this. I
have about 20 vises, I collect them, and each have
their own pros and cons. I have a Danvise and can
find
a number of things that don't suite me but others
love
them. I have a Regal that is a fast production vise
but if your hands are bad, squeezing the lever might
be hard on your hands. The Norlander is a fast vise
for tying some flies like the Woolly Buggers. I can
go
on but I think you get the idea. I use the Dyna King
Barracuda Jr. For me it is the ideal vise in size as
I
do shows and it is just the right size to travel. I
also have two other Dyna King vises that are smaller
and I take one of them when just doing a local demo
instead of taking the Jr.along and having to break
down my tying station. My Jr. and complete tying
station fits in a attache case as one unit along with
the tools I will be using at the
show.

Boy, Bob this is really a
personal preference type of thing. I started
on a Thompson A vise, then to a Renzetti Traveler
and then a Regal. A few years ago I bought a
NorVise. I have tied on a few others.
Each seems to have its particular strength and
weakness. If you enjoy your vise, don't
change. If it no longer suits your needs there
are lot's of vises and opinions. I think Hans
W. did a fine article a few years back on vises
that
I think you could find on the internet. The
best thing to do if you want to make a change is to
find a full service shop that has several of the
vises that you are considering and ask to tie on
them. Many will let you sit down and try them
out (at least mine did). Lacking that if there
is a tying group in your area find out when they
meet and sit with them and tie on theirs. It's
the best way to decide, especially if you are
thinking of stepping up to a much more expensive
vise.
