Folks: I found a Gamefisher 5hp outboard last year in a local buy/sell paper.
Well, the guy wanted $125 for it, which wasn't bad. I got over there, and due
to a bad design, one of the bolt heads that holds the cooling cowling on, had
rubbed a tiny hole in the (plastic) gas tank. Well, it ran great, but had this
problem. So, the guy knocked it down to $75. I almost snatched his arm off
LOL..cause that's dirt cheap around here. Well, my master plan was to fix the
little 1/8" hole by taking a big pop rivet, putting an petroleum resistant
"rubber washer" on the pop rivet, then rivet it in. Worked great. BUT, I forgot
about the tiny gap between the rivet's body and the pin, so it still leaks a
little. Well, it just so happens that the leak is very close to the head and I
don't want to set the thing on fire. SO, does anybody know of anybody that
deals in these type boat parts??? If so, I can provide you with all the make,
model serial number etc ect. It's (I think) an early to mid 1980's motor. And
this particular type plastic, I have tried every type glue, or epoxy there is,
buyt nothing will stick to this stuff. I was just gonna take the rivet out, get
a large screw with course threads and "tap" it into the hole, but I'm afraid it
will vibrate lose and fall out sooner or later (sooner in my case with my luck
LOL). Anyway, I have searched ebay, Craig's list, the internet and can't seem
to find a gas tank. I know they made a LOT of these motors, and probably a
Sears, Ted Williams, or a game Fisher either one should work cause they're all
the same I think. Thanks a lot.. I'll even pay you a "bird dog" fee. I was just
watching You Tube videos and these little motors really haul butt to be as
small as they are and I'd like to do some fishing in the river this year.
Thanks, Chuck
