Nick: I don't know why you are getting so hot under the collar. I'm not hostile at all. You are reading more into my comments about the Peak and other vises than I was when I wrote them. I don't have a Peak. I do have a Dyna-King "Voyager", a Renzetti Traveler, a Regal Inex and more recently a used Nor-vise. I purchased the Regal Inex from Dan Bailey's store in Montana in 1984 while on my way back to Saskatchewan, where I lived at the time. The Renzetti I purchased at least 13 years ago and I have not had to replace anything yet - not even the O-ring. The Dyna-King voyager is at least 16 years old. My comment was only that I feel the Peak vise is underrated compared with equivalent vises. I think Hans Weilenmann reviewed it some time ago, but I cannot locate the review. You came back and asked me to define "equivalent" and immediately mentioned "Dyna-King. I think Dyna-King vises are very good, but not perfect like many things. I pointed out that you have a link to Dyna-King because there could be some bias whether intentional or not. So, for "equivalent" read "similar functioning."

But it was a question and nothing else - and I don't think I'm getting that technical by asking which kind of 'equivalent' you meant. 'Qualities', like the examples I mentioned... or 'functionality', like the examples you're mentioning (number 3). The reason I picked only Dyna-King (from YOUR examples, don't forget that) as example in my own question is that I have heard from many about how many years they've used them, something I haven't heard about Renzetti. Not that I'm saying they aren't long lasting, but I'm not including it if it's based on nothing but a guess. I know nothing more about the Peak than what I've seen on pictures and read... and since it's quite new, the highest percent of what I've read is to be found in two to four line posts in discussion forums. I'm not building even a "probable guess" based on statistics like that. I have not forgotten that I have a link to Dyna-King. So feel free to slap me on my fingers in front of others when/if I do and I'm starting making STATEMENTS which stink of pushing... but not when I'm asking a QUESTION... to understand what it is you're saying. Two entirely different things... links or no links. If I had understood what you'd meant, the question would have been unnecessary and I wouldn't have asked either. Tell me I'm getting unnecessarily technical by asking what you're saying... and I will respond with that I think you're getting unnecessarily hostile in your assumtions about my reason for asking. /Nick -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] För Neville Gosling Skickat: den 12 april 2010 19:05 Till: [email protected] Ämne: [VFB] Peak Vise I think that we are getting unnecessarily technical by trying to define equivalent and don't forget that you have a link to Dyna-King. 1) Value - I recently saw one for sale brand new, not secondhand on ebay for $129.95. To my way of thinking, it represented excellent value in this day and age. The normal price is approx $144.66 with free shipping. 2) While it may not be as visually attractive as the Renzetti, HMH or Dyna-King Barracuda, Barracuda Jnr or Trekker it appears to be well made. 3) It has a full range of extra as do both the Renzetti and Dyna-King such as saltwater or midge jaws, bobbin cradle, waste catcher etc. 4) The reports that I have read indicate that the standard jaws hold the hook well. Obviously, if one ties very large or very small flies, one should use the most suitable jaws. 5) Finally, I believe it does the job just as well as the "equivalent" vises listed above. Is it half the price of the Dyna-King vises with the equivalent qualities (hook-holding capacity, long lasting etc) or half the price of the Dyna-King vises with the equivalent functions? /Nick -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] För Neville Gosling Skickat: den 12 april 2010 18:26 Till: [email protected] Ämne: [VFB] Peak Vise With all this talk about the Mayfly vise, it seems to me that one of the most underrated vises on the market is the Peak. It offers good value for money (not as good as the Mayfly) as it is about half the price of the equivalent Dyna-Kings and Renzetties. Neville (Nev) Gosling Greater Vancouver, B.C.
