We sneaked in a reservoir in North Jersey back many years ago and it was still
dark. There was some splashing near the bank. Shined a flashlight where the
splashing was and there was a good size bass with a smaller bass hanging out of
it's mouth. My buddy made a cast and foul hooked the bass. Tool both home and
eat them. Both were still alive.
Alan,
That was the Wannaque Reservoir. I am sure you know where it was.

Many years ago, a fishing buddy and I found a bass we estimated to
have been close to 10 lbs. which had tried to eat a 4-5 lb. catfish.

The catfish's barbs went out through the gills of the bass and they
were locked.

Both died and had washed up on the shore.  I can only imagine the struggle.
