I guess that's proof enough that the intelligence of a fish is quite limited... just thinking "I wonder what's in there. Let's take a look." A little brighter fish would think "My life has been good even though I haven't known what's in that hole, so why take the risk and maybe do something I will regret? Nah... I think I'll split instead."... ... and we would see more mouths sticking out of the mouths instead. I’ve caught bass on more than one occasion w/ another bass or sunfish tail sticking out of it’s mouth. We sneaked in a reservoir in North Jersey back many years ago and it was still dark. There was some splashing near the bank. Shined a flashlight where the splashing was and there was a good size bass with a smaller bass hanging out of it's mouth. My buddy made a cast and foul hooked the bass. Tool both home and eat them. Both were still alive. Alan, That was the Wannaque Reservoir. I am sure you know where it was. Many years ago, a fishing buddy and I found a bass we estimated to have been close to 10 lbs. which had tried to eat a 4-5 lb. catfish. The catfish's barbs went out through the gills of the bass and they were locked. Both died and had washed up on the shore. I can only imagine the struggle. a. -- Allan Fish Greenwood, IN [email protected] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VFB Mail" group.
