Well I finally got back on Crooked Creek yesterday with my Son in Law and my 15 year old Grand Daughter. It was hot and the bright sun did not help maters. There were a lot of large Small mouths but they were not interested in what what we were casting. They would just "bump" the Chili Pepper and not take it. I finally resorted to a dry foam bug. It was Bluegill after Bluegill on about every cast till the hole quit. Seems you could take about 20 gills from a hole before they quit hitting. My son in law caught about 40 Gills and I caught about the same. The Grand Daughter the first time with a fly rod did about 9 gills and a few other types. I had another experience with catching a Bluegill and a bass taking it. Just before quiting for the day I made my last cast in a riffle and hooked a palm size gill. The Gill went crazy and then I felt a strong tug. Then it would go wild again and another strong tug. When I got it close to me I noted a large Smallmouth chasing it. There was a big swirl and the gill disappeared and a strong pull. My 4 wt was bent almost all the way down to the water and I just played the bass. Finally the line went slack and then some drag on it. I still had the Gill on but it was not fighting. I removed the hook from the gill and revived it. It finally swam away apparently unhurt. Don't know if it lived or not but I gave it a chance. I waded the mile or so but I think my wading days have come to an end. My age is catching up with me. Arkansas Tony
