True "Swis Straw" is not as durable, it is a grass. The "Plastic " Swis straw 
is more durable than some plastic bags. I like "Scud Back"

Sorry George - I didn't see your post until I got home.

I have nearly a full quart of the MinWax Polyurethane Spar varnish;
that should / oughtta work equally well?  Wayne told me that that's
what he uses for building rods.  I'll try it and see . . .

I really enjoyed today's class - using the small strips of  plastic
bags for scud backs is really cool!  How does this compare to Swiss
straw?
