Jerry: I'll try some of the smaller ones as well, because even a bluegill's
main diet is usually made up of minnows, or baby bluegills and other baby
fish. Also, where do you get that film stuff as shown in the video that the
guy laid on top of the sticky side of the peel and stick foam?? Or, is that
really needed?? Seems to me I could make these using plain foam, then glue
it together on the bottom, then paint the outside with a sharpie, then paint
it with Hard as Nails or 5 min. epoxy, and save the peel and stick foam for
the stacked circle popper heads right?? And did you get that in your ear on
a forward cast?? I've had a bunch in my ears from that LOL. First year I
started fishing, I think I had more holes in my ears than I could count.

I've tied my Crease Flies down to about 1 1/2 inches. At that size I'll
use 1 mm foam if I can find it. Brad's a member of my salt water club. An
excellent tyer. He does some mean poppers. Back to the Crease flies. I
use a spark plug gauge/gaper to make my triangles. One thing I do a bit
different is when I glue the bottoms together, I'll put a small clamp to
squeeze them. It flattens the foam and creates a bit of a keel. Crease
flies were original designed to imitate an injured peanut bunker and it
floated on its side. It's evolved now to where it floats belly down. Also,
they can be fished off of intermediate or sinking lines. You can plug the
mouth with foam, like when he's adding a rattle in the video or leave it
open. In the last year I've started using articulated shanks instead of a
long shank hook. Tie it the same way, just slip a split ring with the
appropriate sized barbless treble hook onto the loop in the back of the
shank before you add the body. Not sure if you can see it well in the
attached picture, but that's one of them hanging from my ear.

To use your metal flake foam, suggest you look at Crease Flies. They're
usually larger, but you can size down to bluegill sized. Lots of how to s

combos that have worked. I plan to make a few of each of the solid colors
and just trying those till I see what they are hitting on that particular
day in that particular shade, or sunshine, or time of day etc. But I didn’t
even know they made the stuff in the metal flake till tonight. I think Gray
and black might be good because we have certain beetles that are black, but
have gray colored wings when they spread them out. I think black and green
would be good, because June bugs here are sorta that color combo. But others
I just can’t think of right now. The foam says for ages 3 and up so MAYBE I
won’t hurt myself with it LOL.. Thanks, Chuck
