Chuck: You might be able to get it in a craft store. That's where I initially go mine, but they quit carrying it. The only reason I have some is that a friend on another list had to quit fly fishing because of health reasons and decided not to tie anymore and sent me all he had. He lives in Florida so the stuff might be available down there. You can probably get it on line also. The stuff I have is called Delta Renaissance Foil. Mother of Pearl. It's not really necessary. I don't remember the original pattern being more that white foam with color add with permanent marker. It does had a splash of sparkle like scales to the fly. If you're tying a bunker or shad imitation, a silver foil added to the fly gives it that flash you see with those fish. I'm always leery of Hard as Nails. I used to use it for head cement and coating my poppers but then noticed a distinct nail polish smell when I opened my fly boxes. Figure if I could smell it so could the fish. You can find water based "epoxies" One I use is called "Triple Thick" it can be thinned with water. It dries quickly and one or two coats should work for you since you aren't dealing with toothy critters. Another is called "Liquid Fusion" It's a clear urethane that can be thinned with water. One more is Seal-Coat Lure and Jig finish, another that can be thinned with water. There are several glues available in craft stores that can be used to glue foam. If it dries clear and tacky you can apply a thin coat to foam and when it's tacky apply the foil. I tend to use just one foam circle for my popper head, especially the ones I tie for pan fish. I got hit on the forward cast. I'd been fishing for a couple of hours and my shoulder was getting tired and it was windy and I ignored the couple of casts that had already hit my hat. I took a pictures of the ones I've been using, including the one that hooked me in my ear. As soon as I get them uploaded to my computer. I'll post them in an e-mail.

Back to the Crease flies. I use a spark plug gauge/gaper to make my triangles. One thing I do a bit different is when I glue the bottoms together, I'll put a small clamp to squeeze them. It flattens the foam and creates a bit of a keel. Crease flies were original designed to imitate an injured peanut bunker and it floated on its side. It's evolved now to where it floats belly down. Also, they can be fished off of intermediate or sinking lines. You can plug the mouth with foam, like when he's adding a rattle in the video or leave it open. In the last year I've started using articulated shanks instead of a long shank hook. Tie it the same way, just slip a split ring with the appropriate sized barbless treble hook onto the loop in the back of the shank before you add the body. I think Gray and black might be good because we have certain beetles that are black, but have gray colored wings when they spread them out. I think black and green would be good, because June bugs here are sorta that color combo. But others I just can’t think of right now.
