The Japanese silks for salmon flies will fray if you have rough fingers, 
so that is why some tiers wear silk gloves.  Really, glove liners from 
Cabelas.  I've made up some streamer bodies for fishing and if done 
right the base layer of body shows through the wet silk giving a more 
minnow like appearance when wet.
