That Dick's Dandy sounds like one of the flies that were submitted for the
Sowbug Tying Contest. I think it was in the streamer category. We did the
judging on those flies last night. Sounds like a good one. We had over 50 flies
submitted.Tony

Tony: Thanks a lot. I’ll try them for sure. I’m also thinking that with the
water still cold here in te rivers/lakes, therefore making crappie more
sluggish, that by fishing them by moving them just a bit at a time I’ll catch
more fish at this time of the yr. Thanks again,Chuck From: 'Anthony Spezio' via

Subject: Re: [VFB] Attn. Tony.. White water demon fly question?? Chuck,I have
really have not been able to get out and fish much at all for the past two
years but I have tyed some WRD's for others that have fished them. Last year I
tyed a dozen for a friend that fishes for Crappie and White Bass. He said he
caught a load of them on the WRD. In years past I have done very well on it for
Trout and Gills.Tony

Chuck,  This is one from the early years of the VFB.   I can't remember Dick's
last name.  I want to say Stock, or Stockton.  Maybe somebody here remembers.
Anyway, it is an easy fly to tie and does work well.  Dick's Dandy:
#8 3XL streamer hookTail          Red hackle tail 3/8" long.body        9
strands of peacock herl spun into a chenille.beard       red hackle tied down.
wing        White over black bucktail (Sparse)  Do not let the wing extend past
the bend of the hook more than 1/8"or the fly will foul.  This fly MUST be
fished with a sinking tip line.  Adding split shot ruins the action of the fly.
Use short and long strips with long pauses.  The fish will most offen take on
the pause.  The fly will suspend if tied correctly.  It's a simple fly to tie
but very effective. On Wed, Mar 11, 2015 at 8:36 PM, Chuck Alexander

Tony, I was just watching your DVD’s again to get some ideas and have a
question about the White Water Demon fly. Do you (or others) report catching a
lot of crappie with that fly?? Reason I ask is because I think with that
pearlescent  white chenille body, the flashabou in the tail, then the red
threaded collar, (which would look like tiny gills on the minnow I think) it
would look just like a Missouri shiner minnow swimming through the water and
most ppl around here fish with either those minnows, or a white on white jig to
catch the most crappie with and we are planning to do some crappie fishing at
night IF it will ever stop raining here LOL.. Thanks, Chuck   Also, does
anybody else here have a “Crappie killer” pattern they tie??? If so, can you
share it with me/us?? Thanks... --
