Clarification:

But, that'd be for a tiny pin-prick leak.  i.e. a needle will float in
water, but add alcohol and it'll sink. Old Boy Scout homemade compass
trick.  A tiny hole might not leak unless a lot of water pressure. The
alcohol would definitely make it leak quicker.

Cleaning the surface in prep for the patch is probably the what they're
using it for tho.
