Just a warning, my opinion, according to my wife, does not matter. But here we go anyway...
This fly hardware is meant to draw attention to the fly, sometimes through noise and definitely though flash. We make rattle flies nowadays, the difference is that the rattles are concealed from view. As for flashy things tied on hooks, that goes on all the time just with a medium different from metal (usually mylar, plastics, etc.). As long as it's not Dr. Juice, why not?

on their flies? Does anyone feel this is, well, just
kind of wrong? Being relatively new (only a few years)
to flyfishing, I'm open to new or even old ideas that
have come around again, but somehow or another this
seems to cross some kind of line, even though so
knowledgeable and respected an authority as Mr Scheck
endorses it. I know flyfishing and tying is a big
tent, but I wonder how other people on the list feel.
