GARY,
I hear your pain, had one of those loops pull out on a 3-4 lb.(?) Redband Rainbow in the Emigrant Wilderness area...Lucky for me i was able to grab the butt of the leader...the trout spit the hook thought. Since than I've used the Braided loop connectors on my 4wt. rigs & smaller. I have found that afew select drops of Zap-A-Gap CA+ will prevent the loop from pulling out and hold the shelve in place... my $0.02 on this subject...

When that "slip on leader loop" comes unraveled during a tussle with a
double digit fish, you will wish you had never seen one. Yes, it happened
to me. Black bass. Easily over 10 lbs. The braided loop attachment will
NEVER get a second chance.
Just my .02.
