How would Whitlocks fox squirrel nymph with the bead
head and rubber legs work? That is a great pattern for
me on the bass in the bigger sizes. What would be a
good gill size? 10 or 12?

The Fox squirrel Nymph with rubber legs will work very well for the "Slabs".. tye it with no weight on a nymph hook. cast it out towards cover & allow it to SLOWLY sink into the water. you'll have to watch the leader very careful for the subtle takes of the Big Boys. sizes #10 & 12 should work very well for you. also tye some with the Beadheads & dredge them deep & slow...either method will produce...but you must fish the nymph very slow...painfully slow...
