about a stiff leader being required to turn over a large fly.

Hans;
I always enjoy your perspective but am not nearly as accomplished a caster as you.  Therefore, my reason for agreeing with you is due to my "less than perfect" cast.  I often get a bit of "snap back" as my leader extends and some of it is due to using too long a leader (I tend to add very light longer sections to a previosly properly tapered leader) and most of it due to timing (impatience) and follow through.

Using furled leaders seems to increase my accuracy and reduce the often upstream mend of the last 1-2 feet of leader or even a curled snake ending.  Is this because there is a softer action to a furled leader?  Different rods seem to improve or decrease my mistakes but using a properly tapered length leader improves my cast a lot.  Using a furled leader makes it look almost perfect with my softer action rods.

The furled leaders I have (2 left) are from friends who made them.  Cabelas 2002 FF catalog offers "Ruth's" brand of furled leaders ($11.99!).  Are you aware of this brand?  Thoughts?  Claude Freaner showed me how to make them at NEC a few years back but it s emed like a lot of time to do something with a drill I could replace with a mono version at my tying desk.  You all are making me consider creating my own.  I hope I can remember how to finish them.  URL's?

Thanks!

Murf
