Motion, movement, the impression of life. I don't tie mine bushy because I want the hackle (I think Byard sent me schlappen) to have unrestricted movement. My marabou tails are tied half shank to 3/4 shank length, with and without krystalflash. Sometimes I like a bit of wiggle and others some undulating motion. My early attempts with stiff hackle caught very few fish.
