I agree with Gary. I tie mine with the hackle length as long as possible. I
use dyed saddle hackles as webby and soft as possible. Only three or four
wraps so their is a much motion as possible. Marabou length = hook shank
length. If you are getting short strikes, pinch off a little with you
thumbnail at the river or lake.

Color is vital, as has been said in the previous posts. I tie either a black
or green body with olive, red, yellow, etc dyed grizzly hackle, natural
grizzly hackle, brown and black.

Also try a green butt on a black body. You can never have too many combos.
Just picking the right one is a problem.
