Hi John! There's a pattern popular in the Mammoth Lakes, CA area called the Twin Lakes Special. The body and tail of this fly are identical to the wooleybugger style, but with the hackle as you describe, hen hackle as a collar. I tie this one in sizes 8-14 in olive, cinnamon, black, brown, and have done a fair amount of experimenting with some of the new types of chenilles for the body. Usually no more than 2 turns of hen saddle at the front. I think the olive/green colors work best, especially when the damsel nymphs are active.
