I believe one of the most difficult tasks for a fly fishermen
is to cast to cruising fish along the beach or flats. We have tried
to cast to cobia which look like small sharks as they go by.
They usually follow a group of rays. It is extremely difficult
to judge where to place your fly before the fish cruises by.
We have not caught a cobia yet but my husband did catch 3 snook this
way (on flies I tied of course) from 36-45". It takes alot of patience,
stealth, and steady nerves. I would compare it to bow hunting for Elk.
GINGER,You need to try sight fishing to CORBINA in the Southern California Surf.... That is a tough game to play. CORBINA make Bonefish on the flats look relaxed... We lovingly refer to them as "The Grey Shadows of the Surf" . I think all Corbinas die at early ages from being overly Paranoid. I've yet to catch one on the fly....thought I've "stocked" them numerous times in the Surf...maybe this Summer I'll finally connect.....
