Jimi You will have more difficulty casting because the rod won't load as well with a 6 or 7 weight as it will for an 8 weight. If anything, I would over line a rod rather than underline it . For example, I have an early Sage 690 but it doesn't perform until I put a 7 or 8 weight line on it. I consider it to be at least a 7 weight but Sage calls it a 6. The foregoing applies mainly to graphite and not bamboo.
