I've shown neophytes the disco bug. Dub a body or tie in a small bunch of marabou. Take a small circle of craft foam, fold in half and tie in at the thorax. You are done!
BTW I have found that most kids ages 10 and up are ok about tying in size 14 streamer hooks. Most of my beginner patterns use that hook. The second foam bug I show them is the foam beetle. tie in foam, dub body, fold foam over body and tie in behind the eye of the hook. Optional - Rib over the dubbing with one strand of flashabou or crystal flash or thin strip of a potato chip bag Ed http:\\EdEngelman.com At 05:21 PM 3/13/02, you wrote: >What foam pattern you would suggest? > >-----Original Message----- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Dan Gober >Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 8:52 AM >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [VFB] Beginning Fly Tying > > >First let them watch, take them fishing and last teach them an easy foam >fly. dan gober >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Bryan Moir" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 12:47 AM >Subject: [VFB] Beginning Fly Tying > > > > > > Hi all... > > > > What would be a good way to introduce children to fly tying?
