Two favorite hackle pliers..one is the artery clip from
http://www.carolina.com. It is found in the dissection stuff for schools.
Other is a neat handmade one from John Foust, a little wire spring job that
never fails..found by calling him at Foust's Fly fishing, Hamilton, MT and
getting his number from the operator (can't find my catalog right now). He
makes them himself..they don't break hackle like the electrical clip does
and even the tiniest 22 hackle does not slip. Third one that I use, not as
favorite as it is more likely to slip, but which Hans swears by, is the
Dorin pliers available from Mike Hogue at Badger Creek flytying (eflytying I
believe) and also from http://www.flyshop.com from California. It is a
teardrop pliers and again, does not break the hackle like the electrical
ones have done for me.Be sure it is a genuine Dorin and not a cheap knock
off which is not the same quality.
Hans, however, uses the electrical ones with no breaking..so they do
work for him. Joyce
