I use those cheap black teardrop hackle pliers and never lose a hackle. Hans or Tony suggested gluing some fine grit sandpaper to the tips one time long ago. The more I tie, the simpler my tools and methods. My only problem is that I'm a big guy with big hands and must be careful not to apply to much pressure and break off hackle tips.
