This thread reminded me of a tip I picked up when I visited the noted
Irish salmon-fly tier, Robert Gillespie, a week ago. When using
Superglue, put a large daub on some tinfoil. The Superglue won't harden
for some time. Robert puts a drop on his heads just before a hand
whip-finish. As he is a commercial tier to whom durability is very
important, he finds this worthwhile. Cheers,
Paul
