Hi Rene,
one particular food item that I believe does change colour in the trouts
stomach is freshwater shrimp.Although there are occasions when shrimp turn
orange - when playing host to a certain parasite - I have never seen it in
the wild .Yet every shrimp I have examined from trout stomach is coloured
orange. I cannot belive there are that many host shrimps that have gone
undetected by me. I think the digestive juices turn the shrimp orange. Also
trout that have been feeding heavily on shrimp tend to have red flesh.
Maybe someone with a more scientific background can shed light on this
subject. I can only record my observations and speculations.
All the best
Graeme.

Subject: [VFB] Content of a trout

Hopefully, I don't offend our C&R people -from time to time I keep a trout
for dinner. (2 - 4 a year)
This spring I checked the contend of my trout's belly. Lot's of ants and
black stonefly. My question: How does the color change, when the flies are
eaten. Had the living insects really been black or is the color changing
after a certain time.
