I don't like to pack a firearm anymore but would consider red habanero oil dispersed by a paint ball gun. The model would have to be modified in size and weight and the balls filled with grain alcohol used to soak red Congo hab mash including seeds. Better yet, one of those super soaker water guns with a filtered solution of same to avoid jams. The only problem is a sow can get so incensed as to ignore all pain to protect her young. The alcohol increases the absorption of the pepper oil. My next idea would be a tangle trap to trip the bear up for a while. But all this must fit in your vest or on a lanyard ... tough to figure.
