My advice would be to follow that of A.K Best. He first makes a
":working" solution in which he dissolves the whole amount of dye ( or
a known amount) in a cup or two of water. This is the working solution.
Then, he takes this and uses it as liquid dye with 1-2 TBS to a standard
2 cups of water with vinegar and salt. ( do this with RIT dye..mix the
box in 250 cc of water. (I get the bottles with the tight rubber caps
that anesthesia agents come in). Using this as my working solution, my
standard amount of dye is 1 TBS of the working solution to 1 tbs vinegar
and 1 tsp salt and 2 cups of water. This will immerse a whole neck or
saddle in a Rubbermaid long shoe box container. Then I watch and see how
it works..heating the solution in the microwave and removing the
neck/saddle each time I reheat the dye. It usually takes over night for
a deep dark dye and 2 -4 hours for a lighter one. HOpe this helps. Joyce
