How many of you guys and gals use GPS's in your fishing treks?
Religiously. Have for years while fishing from a boat. Before GPS, I used Loran C.
If you do:
What features are necessary, & which are bells and whistles?
Reversible track is nice, waypoint storage (at least 99), and, most important, memory track. This allows you to recreate the path of the boat over hotspots.
How hard are they to learn?
Ridiculously easy. 10 minutes with the instruction manual and you're good to go.
How easy are they to use?
Easy.
How much does a good, useable one cost?
Under a $100 for a good hand held. Just a few years ago (less than 10) the least expensive model on the market was over $1,000.
Anything else one should know?
Probably not real necessary for the stream fisherman except in terms of land navigation.
