Jimi, Great story. So many points for us all to remember about how we should conduct ourselves. Many times I've gotten permission to fish some small creeks on private (posted) property by merely asking the owner. Mentioning that you practice catch and release doesn't hurt either. The farmers here work their butts off and may not fish or have time to. But they like having trout in their creeks. And they really appreciate respect for them and their property.
Sounds like this gentleman would be a good candidate to become a flyfisherman himself.
