Yes. I was a member of a number of coarse fishing clubs and I fished a few
matches in my younger days. However, I was more interested in "Specimen
Hunting" or the pursuit of larger fish.
I specialized in Carp, Tench and Pike but was an all rounder and tried
everything. In England, there is a "closed season" for coarse fishing which
runs from March 15 to June 16. Fortunately, the trout season opened on April
1st so I was only prevented from fishing for 2 weeks. Things have changed
since I left some 30+ years ago. I also used to do some sea fishing which
consisted of "beach casting" (surf casting in USA)I fished for cod, bass and
flatfish. I've still got the 12 ft beachcaster in my cupboard here. It
hasn't been used for over 30 years. It is a reverse taper fibreglass rod
that I built. I used to be able to cast a country mile with it.

Neville -

Did you ever fish any matches over in England? There was a time when I was
completely intrigued by the sport.
