It is always difficult to argue against personal observation, but
objectively hard to equate. The first 30' of both DT and WF are
identical or very close to identical, so any differences would only
start to show up once you go beyond the belly portion of the WF line
outside the tip guide, which would be a longer cast than most stream
fishing demands.
The AFTMA table does not differentiate between DT, WF, LB, etc. Nor
does it differentiate between floaters, sinkers, intermediates or
sink-tips.
The only other area where there can be differences is in the front
taper. Most line profiles I have looked at are pretty close in DT/WF
lines from the same brand/range.
If lines are idential in profile they can only behave identical.
Yes/no/maybe?
You forgot one important variable, the caster. I haven't made any observations of others, just myself. In the hands of another they may cast the same, but in mine the WF is "splashier" than the DT.
Either way, I pray they don't discontinue DT lines.
