Something to think about... I hear a lot of
references to the movie A River Runs Through It. I finally bought this
movie a couple weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. A movie that better fits
the area I live in is called A Perfect Storm. If you ever visit New
England you need to visit the docks. Everyday at the same time the lobster
boats arrive at the processing plants. Many of the men that work these
boats aren't by any stretch wealthy. They are in a battle to survive with
the commercial fishermen. A way of life here in New England is
disappearing more everyday. I've gone to the docks when the boats come in
and bought the days catch from the lobstermen. They always save some for
the locals. When they pull up to dock the boat you can walk out and
purchase what they saved from that days catch. On some docks they even
cook it and serve it for you. You can buy the fish fresh there also in the
markets on the dock. More and more of these guys are having to find
other work. It's a very tough life. Linda Greenlaw the woman
portrayed in The Perfect Storm has since given up being a swordfish boat captain
and is now pursuing lobstering back home. She has written about the
struggles she has encountered as a lobsterperson. I know this doesn't
really fit the flyfishing forum but it may be of interest to some of
you.
