This was great!  I was up to hip-waders, but you've upped the anty to chest waders.
The VFBS is alive and well and coming from California now!  Both JimmyD and I are off the hook now.

Subject: [VFB] Skip Morris's age/ Black Gnat origins...Pt. 3

Part 3...

The transaction is completed, the Gentleman ventures North up the Hudson River valley to the small town he was directed to. with Guide in tow ,The English Gentleman proceeds to "Kill many New York Trout" with the "Americanized Black Gnat". The English Gnetleman has a wonderful 4 days fishing the streams & rivers near the small Northern New York town...

The Clerk, in the meantime, realizes that the English Gentleman is correct in the belief that the Black Gnat will prove very effective. So he assigns the Tyers to produce more of them to sell to the Customers.. The clerk starts using the Black Gnats & finds they Truely "Kill New York Trout", along with New Jersey, Penns; Conn; Vermont Trout as well.. Of course from here in Vermont the Black Gnat is brought to the Orvis tackle Company for replication...

This would be about 33 to 35 years since "Day one"...once Orvis realizes the effectiveness of the Black Gnat they have the Lovely Lady tyers produce them to sell to their Clients... Along comes Mary Orvis..... I'll end this little scenario here as I'm sure you can see where it goes from here.......

My much educated & as you can all see, well thought over guess as to Skip Morris' age if he Truely invented the Balck Gnat... Skip is 160 years old, he was born in  1843...started tying flies at age 7 (!850) & tyed the first Black Gnat at age 10 (1853)...his real name is Beaufort Alexander McMorris , but when he moved to the Former Colonies he changed his last name to Morris to avoid getting bet up by Bill the Butcher, who doesn't like Irish or English Gents...the name "Skip" came into play as it seems Morris is particular to skipping along the trail after a great day on the Streams...

Believe all or non of this.... But you have to admit it is probally a very likely scenario of the origin the Black Gnat & how it spread in popularity....

  I'm typed out....

   DEAN
