Not in my opinion. I had a Tiemco bobbin, but the ceramic tube broke.
(Umpqua replaced it). I like the Materelli but in terms of value
you can't beat the S & M bobbin like A.K. Best uses. I have been
using them since 1984 - before I had even heard of A.K.
If the tube wears, you can unscrew it and screw in a replacement,
but I haven't even had to do that yet! I purchased my first pair at
Bob Jacklin's Fly Shop in West Yellowstone. Since then, I have 
purchased additional ones from "Quiet Sports". I have no affiliation
with either.
