I use lots of beads from the craft store..and here is how I do it. I slide the bead on the hook, and place it about midpoint. then I tie on the thread behind the eye and wind back towards the bend several times, then back to the bead eye leaving room for the head of the fly. Put a drop of head cement on the thread. Now slide the bead forward, over the thread you've wrapped and when the bead is exactly where you want it, pick up the thread and move it over the bead and then wrap several turns behind the bead with the thread holding the bead in the exact position where you want it and keeping it from sliding forward. You can even leave a tail on your tie on thread and thus have double thread to go over the top of the bead and then tie them down back of the bead. Now move forward to the point on the hook above the barb and tie the rest of the fly as you ordinarily would do. when finished, cross your thread over the top of the bead again and tie off the head behind the eye. This will nicely hold the bead in place and will in no way harm the action of the fly. Joyce
