Deb The Trude was created in fun by Carter H Harrison in 1903, while a guest on the A S Trude Ranch in Idaho. The body was red worsted from a rug and a bunch of hair from a red spaniel dog, put together with a squirrel tail hackle in the spirit of fun on an over-size Muskie hook, and presented to Mr. Trude. The fly looked so good that a few more serious samples were made up with a red yarn body wraped with silver tinsel, a wing of squirrel tail hair long enough to show the dark band and a red rooster hackle. This fly caught all the fish the guests could carry from the Snake River near the ranch. Mr. Alfred S Trude was a noted criminal lawyer and prosecutor. He resided in Chicago and died in 1933. Mr Harrison successfully used this pattern on the Great Lakes for Brook Trout and Small Mouth Bass. Hope this helps you out with your article. Mel Deborah Duran wrote:
