Can anyone out there in VFB land give me the skinny on the original "Elk
Hair Caddis"? by Al Troth. While I'm sure this pattern was used before he
made it a known fly. It seems to be the accepted EHC. I have written the
troths that guide in Montana and found a page with pictures of Al guiding
but I never got a reply. Does anyone have the original recipe? I've seen the
fly wrapped with and without wire, with both brown & furnace hackle
palmered? Different types of dubbing and different types of hooks???? I am
tying one for the famous fly swap but am still a little perplexed as to THE
original pattern? As they are all attributed to Al Troth... and they are all
slightly different. Any of you pro's with some insight on this?
