Deb,

I always loved to fish. I used to visit my aunt in U.P. Michigan she taught
me to fish. I learned patience by fishing tiny steams no bigger than 2 feet
wide with wild trout and all i had was a hook and a worm. I sat for hours
just watching the fish make its way over. I never did catch a trout that way
but the obsession started there. I fished spin and ultra light for a long
time and then my husband introduced me to bass and pike fishing. Somewhere
I had heard about fly fishing and bought myself a $34.99 K-mart special and
any book and magazine I could get my hands on. I spent my first year making
many mistakes and catching absolutly NO fish and reading everything. My
husband get trying to get me to go back to my spinning rod but I refused. I
was going to learn this if it killed me. I heard about a group called the
Joan Wulff Fly Fishers and I joined the group I learned a lot from the Women
and Men in that group just watching what they did.

I took up tying at the second year of my new obsession and like others I
bought a cheap kit that had the basic tools and materials and again bought
every book & mag I could get my hands on. I tied and tied and fished and
fished and watched and read and caught fish. I love the water, I love the
solitude, I love the feel of the rod the weight of the fish I dream and
think fishing and tying if I'm not doing it.

I'm now the treasurer of the JWFF and I work part time in a shop and I'm
starting to in public I tied at the Somerset show. The shop has asked me to
tie at thier cabin fever day. I love helping new people in the sport. I
help our group and the local TU with childrens groups.

This obsession has given me a passion that is unimaginable, indescribable.
It has given me a way to talk to people a way to get away from people( when
I need to) and something to share with people. Tying is a way to be
creative and to releave the stress from a long day. I tie just about every
day.

Fly Fishing / tying, is my passion, my obsession.

Luckly my husband is understanding. He fishes as well.

Jackie
