Why ??
For a kid growing up in the "Desert South West" when I read about fly
fishing it was magical. It held more fascination than Disney world. Finding
a fly rod and a total lack of materials was part of the challenge. One that
I attacked with determination.
It has been a great journey, one full of surprises and one that never
ends. Having caught my first trout on a fly I tied was a joy only surpassed
by watching my 11 year old daughter do the same thing. She enjoys the tying
as well as the fishing and is helping me to "Couch" my wife and her mother
in the art. Theresa is slowly gaining a deep appreciation for it and
hopefully this year I will be able to get her a rod of her own and turn her
lose with may daughter in search of the great finny critters of the deep.
It has come full circle, and continues to expand with each adventure and
each new tying technique we try. It is like the Aurora Borealis, it
captivates you with such a desire that you long for it like a kiss from a
loved one. It becomes a part of you that you hold as close as your walk with
the Lord and as willing to share as the same. It is a dream you hope and
pray never ends and the friends you acquire with it are as close as family.
That's about all I can say about it.

Guys and Gals-
I was just curious as to what it was that got you interested in flyfishing
and tying flies. I overheard some guys joking at the show I went to
yesterday. One gentleman said that fly tying was just arts and crafts for
guys. I thought that was funny.
I have always loved needlepoint and making miniature crafts. I remember
when I lived in Vermont I wandered into an outdoor outfitter shop in an old
mill building. I saw a guy tying flies in between customers. That really
left an impression on me and I remembered that day. When my husband decided
he wanted to teach our oldest son to fish, and after I had been dragged in
to store after store looking at fishin lures, I mentioned that day to him.
At Christmas time under the tree was my first fly tying kit. Of course for
his birthday shortly after he bought his first fly rod. I never realized
how addicting it could be or how much fun I would have. For my birthday
this year I bought my first rod. I can now outlast my poor husband in any
flyfishing/tying store or show.
I would be interested in hearing some of your stories.
