I still use pearsalls silk thread where it matters, but uni thread was good news when it arrived over here for general tying. Genetic hackles-Metz and especially Whiting have changed tying for ever. Modern colour fast dyes that dont fade or wash out. But the most useful new gadget for fly tying has to be the computer/internet, where i get answers to questions i had'nt yet thought of (like DonO and his damned rope dubbing)
